Potato Palooza powers church youth group

The Bandera United Methodist Church was a big part of Cowboy Mardi Gras celebrations, feeding hundreds of folds after the long, festive parade with their Potato Palooza event.
With crowds flocked to Main Street for Church volunteers carried signs up and down Main Street advertising the palooza, which was held at the church’s location at 11th and Cedar Street.
Church spokesperson John Zamudio said the church expected to feed a huge crowd but was surprised when they had to set up more tables due to popularity.
“This is the church’s second biggest event, and we made it all outdoor,” said Zamudio, Minister of Youth.
Plates cost $10 and came with a baked potato, fixings, salad, dessert and a drink.
“We put 15 to 20 tables in a parking across from the church and it was filled once the parade was over,” he added, adding that once church expansion is over next year there will be drive through option to get the food.
