Breanna Stimmel makes Bandera’s first goal against the Comfort Deers on Saturday, December 19. Although the team lost the game, they went on to beat Pearsall 40-34 in their next game.

The Lady Bobcats lost a road trip game at Knippa 35-28 Monday, Dec. 21, in a day game during the Medina holiday break.

The 2 p.m. start in a weekday game might have felt a little strange to players, coaches and fans that are used to night and weekend games.

The loss leaves the Medina team 5-8-0 for the season and 0-2 in district.

Medina ISD Athletic Director and girls coach Cully Doyle talked about the game and the team following the loss.

“The girls basketball team played an amazing game at Knippa on Monday,” he said. “We actually played great and really great at times. Defense is keeping us in the game but offensively we are still improving.

“Medina girls lost by just seven points to a really good Knippa team,” he continued.

“I tell you, the girls who are playing basketball here in Medina are really good and improving and they continue to show signs of greatness.

“I truly believe that if the game was two minutes longer, we would have won that game,” he said. “

The girls were coming back from a 12-point deficit, reducing it to five at one point.

“I was so proud to see how they believed during the second half and how hard they played in the 4th quarter,” Coach Doyle said. ”This girls basketball team is on a mission.”

The Lady Bobcats had games at D’Hanis on Tuesday Dec. 28 and then makeup a game on Wednesday Dec. 29 at Leakey.

Results of those two games were not available before the Bulletin’s deadline.

The boys basketball team was not able to play the originally scheduled game against Knippa on Monday, Dec. 21.

They will be making that game up in the near future, the coach said.
