County’s track athletes head to regionals

Student athletes from Bandera, Medina and Utopia High School are headed to their respective Regional competitions following performance after qualifying at recent Area competitions.

Utopia High School athletes traveled to McMullen County last Wednesday, April 20, where four girls and two boys advanced to Regionals.

Hope Martinez, Bailey Mc-Beth, Meagan Cole and Cherish Dunlap placed third in the 4x100. Dunlap also placed third in the 400m and triple jump and second in the 200m. Cole placed third in the pole vault, and Martinez in the 100mmmm.

In the boys’ competition, Luke Leavelle placed fourth in the 3200m, and Dustin Rhodes placed fourth in pole vault.

Over half a dozen a Medina High School athletes are headed to Regionals following April 21’s Area Track and Field Meet.

Makenna Gourley will be competing in the 100m, Cydney Newsom I the High Jump, Kaidanse Pump in the shot put and T J DeLeon in the 400m.

McCabe and Ahnika Grassie advanced in the 1600m, while 4x400 rela team of Hallie Kunz, Newsom, Grassie and McCabe will be advanced to Area in the 4x400.

Bandera High School athletes Braden Cox, Liam DeMarchi, Tyler More Ethan Brown and Felix Diaz advanced to Regionals competition in multiple categories.

Moore placed first in the long jump, 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles. He’s ranked in the top 50 for both hurdle races.

Cox placed first in the 1600m and second in the 3200m.

DeMarchi placed first in discus and second in shot put.

Ethan Brown placed fourth in the 1600m run.

Diaz placed fourth in the 400m.

Additionally, The girls 4x400 relay team of Hannah Edwards, Laney Boman, Jayla Blake and Jazlyn Dickerson advanced to Regionals.
