The Bandera Lady Bulldogs played in Boerne on Jan. 28 and came out on the short end of a 53-37 score.
Bandera did lessen the margin of victory for Boerne compared to the last time the two teams played and trailed by only single digits several times throughout the contest.
If the Lady Bulldogs had not started the game in a 14-2 hole, it might have been an entirely different result. Bandera did not give up despite the early deficit and played a tough game against Boerne.
Kristin Salas led Bandera’s scorers with 10 points, followed by Chelsey Graves with 8 points. Each girl also had three assists, while Graves had five rebounds, two more than Salas.
Madi Leal scored 5 points in addition to grabbing 10 rebounds, Liz MacNeil and Summer Haby scored 4 point apiece, Katie Dibrell had 3 points and Anna Guajardo hit for two points for the Lady ‘Dogs.
Bandera followed that game on Friday, Jan. 31, with a tilt against Llano.
Both teams came out hot in the first quarter, which ended with the Lady Bulldogs leading 10-9. But in the second quarter, the Lady ‘Dogs struggled to produce offensively and were outscored 13-2.
While Bandera’s defensive play was strong in the second half, low scoring in the third quarter kept the girls from catching Llano despite scoring 14 in the final quarter.
Llano won the game 39-31.
Graves was Bandera’s leading scorer with 10 points. She also had nine rebounds. Guajardo led the team with 16 rebounds and added 7 points.
Also scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were Salas with 5 points, Leal and Haby with 4 points each, and Tatum Trevino with 1 point.
Bandera took on Canyon Lake on Tuesday, Feb. 4, and has an away game scheduled for Friday, Feb. 7, at Wimberley.
