Electric distribution utilities and the Texans they serve should be justly compensated by ERCOT for saving the Texas grid during the Valentine’s week blackouts. The load reduction achieved through rolling outages saved the ERCOT grid from a multiweek, if not months-long, collapse. Load reduction without just compensation is simply not equitable. The structure of the wholesale electric market, also known as the ERCOT market, works well when generation matches load.
