“’Let's Call It Trumpvirus. If you’re feeling awful, you know who to blame.” (Headline from New York Times Opinion piece, Feb. 26, 2020)
In my opinion, this is just one of many headlines showing the NYT, along with MSNBC/CNN, are batting for Team Coronavirus.
Other examples include how Democratic presidential contenders describe the federal infectious disease bureaucracy as both rudderless and ill-prepared for the coronavirus threat because of budget cuts and ham-handed leadership by President Trump.
Trump Derangement Syndrome has so eaten these people’s brains, it appears many are now hoping for the virus to spread just so they can blame Trump.
Actively fanning virus fears just to hurt Trump, intentionally or not, is also taking down the stock market.
From the Feb. 25 Democratic Debate:
Mike Bloomberg: “There’s nobody here to figure out what the hell we should be doing. And he’s defunded — he’s defunded Centers for Disease Control, CDC, so we don’t have the organization we need. This is a very serious thing.”
Joe Biden, comparing the Obama-Biden administration with now: “We increased the budget of the CDC. We increased the NIH (National Institutes of Health) budget. ... He’s wiped all that out. ... He cut the funding for the entire effort.”
The above despicably distorts reality. Trump has not cut the budget. They’re both lying.
He proposed cuts, but Congress instead increased financing.
Can’t say this enough: The National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aren’t suffering from budget cuts that never took place.
Bloomberg repeats these false allegation in a new ad telling us we’re unprepared for the virus because of “reckless cuts” to the CDC.
One more time - public ... health ... financing ... was ... increased.
Furthermore, the money government disease detectives first used to fight the latest outbreak came from an existing fund specifically created for health emergencies.
Democrats claiming “nobody’s here” to organize response efforts hate VP Pence.
While he’s way better than the staff doofus Obama used to coordinate fighting Ebola, this ignores what’s already in place to handle outbreaks.
The public health system follows an existing playbook for pandemic preparation - regardless of who’s president or whether specific instructions come from the White House.
While those plans were created anticipating another flu pandemic (according to National Center for Health Statistics, 55,672 Americans died of flu and pneumonia in 2017), they’re designed to work for any respiratory-borne disease.
Didn’t know that, did you? That’s because the media didn’t have an agenda then.
We’ve survived the swine flu (H1N1), avian flu, West Nile virus, Zika, Ebola, anthrax, SARS and MERS media scares.
I’m pretty sure we’ll survive the coronavirus media scare too.
Democrats, here’s an easy rule of thumb: if you’re hoping for indiscriminate death and destruction to use as talking points against a politician you happen to dislike, you’re the bad guy. It’s not the other guy. It’s you.
So all I say is, keep talking you lunatics. For the love of heaven, keep it up all the way to November.
