ADDRESSING CLUB CONCERNS

My name is Sally Jones, and I am the current president of the Board of Directors for the Bandera Library. I wanted to address the concerns we are hearing from the community about our newest book club. A patron of the library and member of our community approached the library about forming a diversity book club, which would include books about LGBTQ characters and other socially disenfranchised communities. Our mission at the Library is to provide a wide variety of programs to the community to encourage creativity, intellectual curiosity and learning. This book club will do that.

We have heard from many people opposed to the book club and many people who welcome the book club. So long as the book club is pursuing the goals of our mission, we will support it.

This is a book club. The members will read books. They will discuss those books. We are a library and we support this idea.

If you have concerns about this book club, please come and attend a meeting. Listen. Observe. See what it is about. You will probably come away with a great deal of respect for the young man who has founded the club. I did
