Shirley was born on November 1st, 1934, the eldest of three children to Robert Clifford Plunkett and Carrie Mae Plunkett.

She was a 1952 graduate of Jena High School in Trout, Louisiana. During her time in high school, Shirley developed a love for sports. She played basketball for Jena High School and helped the team win a state championship. Her love of sports continued throughout her adult life where she pitched for a fast pitch softball team in San Antonio, Tx and played on a double bowling team in Washington that she helped carry to another state championship.

Shirley met the love of her life, Johnny Lafitte, in their hometown of Goodpine, Louisiana where they grew up on the same street. They wasted no time starting their lives together and married when Shirley was only 18. Together they brought 3 beautiful children into the world and spent 69 years as husband and wife. She passed on her love of sports to her children and cheered them on at every single practice and game, making sure they always knew she was there. Shirley was a loving and devoted housewife, military wife, and mother to her family. Her children were blessed with “Mom of the year, every year, for 68 years!”

In her later years, Shirley most enjoyed loving on and making unforgettable memories with her 6 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Wherever Shirley was you could be sure there were full bellies, big smiles, and endless love.

Shirley is preceded in death by both of her parents as well as her brothers, Robert and James Plunkett.

Her beautiful life will forever be remembered and cherished by the family she has left behind: her loving husband, Johnny Lafitte; children, Mike (Carolyn) Lafitte, Cheryl Lafitte, and Deborah (Kenny) Monroe; grandchildren, Cody (Lori) Lafitte, Lisa Lafitte, Stephanie (James) Eilers, Gerald (Melissa) Connell, Johnny Connell, and Candace (Ryan) Gray; great-grandchildren, Brent, Kimberlee, Wesley, Kennedy, Ellie, Adrianna, Raelynn, Makayla, Abigail, Morgan, Jamie, Baylee, Deackon, Lincoln, Cullen, Riley, and Tristian; and great-great-grandchildren Leighton, Winston, and Xavier.
