Robert Wayne Petty, Jr., 60, died at his home on Thursday, May 12, 2022, following a long and valiant battle with cancer.

He was born on June 25, 1961 in Odessa, TX to Robert and Marcie Petty.

He grew up in Odessa, graduating from Permian High School in 1979. While in high school, he played football for the Permian Panthers.

After high school, he worked as a professional painter, but a lifelong love of cooking prompted him to pursue the culinary arts as his career.

He studied the culinary arts at Le Chef Culinary Arts School in Austin. He would go on to work in many fine establishments including the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Austin, Mission Country Club in Odessa and the Hilton Hotel in Midland. He also worked as the executive chef at the University of Texas McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis, Texas. Over the years he also shared his culinary expertise in private engagements while running his own catering business. He was also known for his acumen as an ice sculptor.

He loved life’s simple pleasures and was a golfer, a voracious reader and avid gardener.

Robert is survived by his wife Patricia Stewart of Pipe Creek, his daughter Emma Catherine of Brownwood, his sister Becky Carson of Fredericksburg and his parents Robert and Marciie Petty of Seminole and former wife Celinda Hawkins of Brownwood as well as nieces and nephews and other beloved family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Audrey Grace of Austin, sister Rhonda Stephan of Coyanosa and brother-in-law Howard Bruner of Buda.

A Celebration of Life is planned at a later date.
