Varsity girls shine at home track meet

Bandera hosted an Invitational varsity track and field meet on March 3.

Other teams in the competition included Fredericksburg, Pearsall, Medina Valley, Medina, Hondo and Center Point.

“The Lady Bulldogs had a very strong showing with many athletes improving their times, jumps and or throws,” said Coach Brooke Ashcraft.

Hannah Edwards placed first in the 800-meter run, while Raelyn Butler brought home the gold in the 3200-meter run.

The varsity girls team placed first in the 4x400 Relay. Team members were Edwards, Trinity Butler, Jayla Blake and Jazlyn Dickerson.

Butler and Gracie Bankston finished second and third respectively in the 800-meter, while Danielle Gonzales placed third in the 3200-meter run.

In the 400-meter run, Layney Bowman placed third, Butler placed fourth and Gracie Bankston fifth.

Maci Morrison placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, while Blake and Dickerson finished fourth and fifth respectively in 300-meter hurdles.

In the 1600-meter, Butler placed second and Gonzales placed third.

The team placed fourth in both the 4x100 (team members Estella Calderon, Edwards, Emily Garcia and Dickerson) and 4x200 (Team Members Calderon, Layney Bowman, Maci Morison and Madi Lewis).

In high jump, Bowman and Morrison tied for third place.

In the pole vault competition, Emily Garcia placed second and Hannah Edwards placed third.

Edwards also placed second in long jump with Jetta Martinez finishing sixth.

Morrison placed fourth in discus, while teammates Jayden Coiner placed fifth and Lauren Benedict placed sixth.
