Tropical depression will turn into hurricane
The National Weather Service (NWS) announced Thursday morning Tropical Depression Nine has developed over the Caribbean Sea and will intensify into a hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico in the next few days, with landfall across th northern Gulf Coast expected by late this weekend or early next week.
Although no significant impacts are expected for South-Central Texas, the NWS said impacts to coastal Texas are possible even if the system stays to the east.
"While confidence has increased on a further eastward track and lesser impacts on South-Central Texas, coastal impacts remain likely with increased rip currents, rough surf conditions and possible coastal flooding."
An update is expected by Friday afternoon.
