Track athletes head to Area

The Bandera High School (BHS) track and field teams participated in the District Track Meet on Monday, April 11, and Wednesday, April 13, at Canyon Lake High School,

The boys’ team finished fourth out of seven teams with 89 points and five athletes advanced to April 20’s Area Meet in Cuero. Two athletes from the BHS girls team. In the ladies’ events, the BHS girls’ team gave good efforts but only clinched a pole vault spot and a relay spot to go to Area.

In the 3200-meter run, two BHS runners qualified for area competition. Braden Cox finished second with a personal record of 10:28. Ethan Brown finished fourth with a personal record of 10:37. minutes, 37 seconds.

In the 1600-meter run, Cox finished first with a personal record of 4:35. Braden came out fast and led from the start and finished ten seconds ahead of the next runner. Brown also qualified for Area by finishing fourth with a time of 4:46 seconds.

Felix Diaz finished fourth in the 400-meter run with a personal record 52.33 seconds. He qualified for the Area meet in Cuero.

The 4x100 Relay Team of Ethan Rutherford, David Guerra, Kayden Brown, and Tyler Moore finished 5th overall.

Tyler Moore placed first in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal record of 15.10 seconds.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Moore also placed first with a time of 39.27 seconds.

Moore was the district champion in the long jump by jumping 21 feet, 2 inches. Moore began participating in long jump just this year.

Senior Liam DeMarchi won discus with his first throw of the day at 147 feet, 10 inches.

DiMarchi also won the silver in the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 4 inches.

Emily Garcia finished in the pole vault with a personal record of nine feet, six inches, advancing to Area competition in a four-way tie for second place.

The ladies of the 4x400 team relay improved their time over five seconds to qualify as well: Hannah Edwards, Trinity Butler, Jazlyn Dickerson, Layney Bowman. Their time of 4 minutes, 8.72 seconds qualified them for a fouth place finish which sent them to compete at the Area meet in Cuero.
