TMN meeting, accepting fall apps

The Texas Master Naturalist’s Hill Country chapter will meet later this month, and they are accepting applications for their fall class through Thursday, March 30.

The New Class Committee is currently in the process of setting up the New Class Schedule for the Fall Class to begin on August 19 and run through November 11.

The deadline for accepting applications is March 30. More info is available at txmn.org/hillcountry.

Rainey Bingham, County Extension Agent Ag/NR from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, will present “Rangeland Management Tools for You” at the next chapter meeting, which is slate for Monday, March 27.

The chapter meets in-person at the Upper Guadalupe River Authority in Kerrville, but virtual attendance via Zoom or Facebook is also available.

Doors open at UGRA, located at 125 Lehmann Drive in Kerrville, at 6 p.m. for snacks and socializing.

A short business meeting will be held at 6:30pm and the Advanced Training session is from 7:10 PM to 8:10 PM. There is no cost to attend.

Rainey Bingham’s presentation will provide a basic overview of rangeland management and how land stewards can apply these techniques to your own property, no matter the acreage.

“To begin, we will discuss the importance of rangeland management, rangeland health, and management plans; then transition into the methods used to accomplish our goals,” read a press release from TMN. “A handful of chemical and mechanical brush management methods are highlighted as well as prescribed fire.”

Bingham grew up in south Texas. After graduating from Texas A&M in 2020, Rainey graduated from Angelo State University in 2022 with her master’s degree in agriculture.

While there, she worked at the District 7 AgriLife Extension office in the department of Range, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management under Dr. Morgan Treadwell.

The Texas Master Naturalist’s Hill Country Chapter is one of 48 regional Texas Master Naturalist volunteer corps and includes 10 counties.

Members receive comprehensive training in natural resource management specific to the Texas Hill Country and volunteer in a wide variety of community projects.
