After COVID and inflation- related delays, a Texas Parks and Wildlife grant will at last start funding a playground to be constructed next to the skate park at Ninth and Maple Streets, with city officials saying they expect to break ground on the project this December.

The grant is a matching one and will cover $75,000 of the $150,000 project.

City Secretary Jill Shelton said BEC and the Bandera EDC have already donated $5,000 and $50,000 respectively. “Exerplay, the playground equipment manufacturer, is donating all of the landscaping around the playground,” she said.

Shelton said they will be looking to install four benches and six picnic tables at the location.

“The cost will be $600.00 benches to $1,800.00 picnic tables,” she said.

Shelton added she hopes the project will be concluded in January of next year.
