The Bandera Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with the help of the Bandera Chamber of Commerce, opened its new Female Secure Memory Unit on Thursday, August 19.

The new unit has 16 beds and is designed to provide for the more specific needs of the patients.

The memory care unit gives care specifically created for patients with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other memory complications.

The unit provides speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy as well as an area for dining services, a living area, and places for social activities for the patients.

Each patient room, either private or semi-private, has its own individual bathroom.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has awarded Bandera Nursing and Rehab Center a five-star rating, the highest rating available from that organization.

The Five Star Quality Rating System provides consumers with information from on-going health inspections, staffing ratios and quality measures. Nursing homes with five stars are considered to have above average quality.

Nursing home administrator Rita Adams along with Chamber Vice President Nick Barron opened the unit as Touchstone Partner Tim Crank held the ribbon they cut.

Crank welcomed everyone to the event and expressed his pride and appreciation for the wonderful job that the staff had done while renovations were underway in the new unit.

Attending from the Chamber of Commerce were Tim Churchman, Carol Murray, Pam Adkins, Randy and Evie Rostad, Chamber Director Angela Munoz and Chamber Executive Director Tammi Boultinghouse.

Nursing home administrator Rita Adams said, “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve some of this community’s loved ones and to focus on them in this small group setting.”

Present at the ribbon cutting from Touchstone Communities, Bandera Rehab’s parent company, was Tim Crank, Touchstone partner; Lynnea Castillo, CFO; Mabel Cassanova, Director of Clinical Operations; Lana Blagg, Vice President of Clinical Care for Touchstone, and Jill Moore, Bandera Rehab’s Transitional Care Liaison.

The Bandera Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is located at 222 FM 1077 in Bandera. For more information, go to their web site at touchstone-communities. com/community/bandera or call at 830-796-4077.
