There is a new place to eat in Lakehills called the Out of the Way Cafe. Located at

11816 PR 37, it is a coffee shop in the old tradition of community coffee shops found in small towns across America.

Owners Shane Wahrmund and his wife Erica Rifkin Wahrmund are busy preparing for their soft opening on Wednesday, September 1. The place will open at 7 a.m. to serve several

varieties of coffee, tea and juices. They will provide many breakfast items, prepared to the customer’s likings. Stressing their desire to be a good part of the community, and to support our neighbors, they offer free coffee to all first responders.

The Wahrmunds are local residents, hailing from the Kerrville area, and now living in Lakehills a little more than a year. They both come from corporate backgrounds. Shane has two teenage daughters from a previous marriage. He and Erica have two kiddos, a four-year-old boy and a girl who just turned six.

Loving the Texas Hill Country, they wanted to make their home here and do something together that would allow them to spend more time as a family. They hope to be able to help our neighbors and provide a comfortable place for people to hang out. The cafe´is their dream.

“We’re trying to spend every day doing good things for other people,” Erica said. Shane added, “We want to be here for the community.”

The goal is to provide southern comfort food, simple and basic. In addition, they hope to build a platform to be able to help those in need. They do not wish to compete with other eating establishments — as such, they will not offer alcoholic beverages. Breakfast and lunch will be served in a family friendly atmosphere. They hope their cafe´will be a comfortable place to sit, sip coffee, and visit with friends and neighbors.

The cafe´will be open Tuesdays through Sundays, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will be closed on Mondays. They have a presence on Facebook and have posted their menu there, under Out of the Way Cafe´.

They are currently building a website and will take online orders soon. In the meantime, they will take callin orders at 830-346-1255.
