Some years ago I read about a man who for fifteen years had to send a one dollar check every week to the family of a girl whom he had killed when driving drunk. He wanted to settle this all at once with one check, but the family refused. They wanted him to suffer through having to write that girl’s name on a check every week for fifteen years, to make him remember what he had done. They wanted revenge.
