Evans reappointed to defense commission

Bandera County Judge Richard Evans was recently reappointed by Governor Greg Abott to the Texas Indigent Defense Commission, according to a May 5 release from Abbott’s office.

Indigent defense involves services for those who unable to pay for their own lawyer. This is handled through several different methods, including public defender programs. assigned counsel programs and contract attorneys.

The commission provides financial assistance and technical support to counties to develop and maintain quality, cost-effective indigent defense systems.

Evans, who is in his 26th year as county judge, is a former chair and current member of the Committee of Six and the Alamo Area Council of Governments.

He was appointed to the commission alongside Georgetown’s Valery Covey, County Commissioner for Precinct 3 of Williamson County, and Corpus Christi’s Missy Medary, Presiding Judge of the Fifth Administrative Judicial Region.
