Diverse offerings at Lakehills library

Posted in:

The Lakehills Area Library has a large meeting room, which is free for nonprofit groups in the county to use, and the programs presented there are free and open to the public.

New attendees are always welcome to take part, library officials said.

The first group to meet each month is the Evening Book Club, which meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m.

The yoga group meets every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Participants should bring a mat and water.

Every Wednesday, starting at 10:30 a.m., the library welcomes pre-school kiddos for a morning of reading, puppets, crafts and games, all to help children with reading readiness.

Each month on the first Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the library conducts a huge Book Sale.

Hardback books at the sale are $1.50. Paperbacks are 50 cents, as are children’s books.

Next up each month is the library’s board meeting, which also is open to the public. The board meets on the second Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., including next Wednesday, Nov. 13.

The Genealogy Society meets the second Thursday of each month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This group includes everyone, from the beginner to the more advanced, who want to research family trees.

Participants who have done the research before will help those who are new in attendance. The library provides free access to ancestry.com at the meetings.

The newest group using the facility is the Lakehills Library Writers Group. It meets every third Thursday of the month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to all writers of all genres.

It is designed to help writers hone their craft with friendly criticisms.

The Daytime Book Club meets the last Tuesday of each month, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Refreshments are served during the book discussion.

A special event scheduled in November is Market Days, a gift shopping event that allows area craftsmen and vendors an opportunity to sell their wares at the library.

That event is planned for Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone wanting to rent a booth for the fair is asked to call the library at 830-510-2777 to reserve a place.

The Lakehills library is located at 7200 FM 1283 and is open Monday and Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The library’s website is lakehillslibrary.org. Its activities also are discussed on its Facebook page.
