The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) attributed a new death to COVID-19 in Bandera County, bringing the death count to 35.

On August 23, DSHS estimated there were 107 active cases of COVID-19 in Bandera County, up from last Tuesday’s count of 107.

There were 34 people hospitalized in Peterson in Kerrville as of Monday afternoon, the highest count this month. Peterson’s website says only two of those patients were vaccinated.

Countywide, 9,759 people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 36 percent are fully vaccinated, according to DSHS.

Statewide, 125,033 deaths were reported in the past week, along with 937 deaths, according to DSHS.

New cases in Texas were up 27 percent compared to the previous week and up five-fold in the past month, according to the Coronavirus Resource Center at Johns Hopkins University.

The number of lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals reached 12,951 on Sunday with 373 intensive care unit beds available across the state, according to DSHS.

The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations is up more than four-fold from a month ago and is approaching the all-time high set in mid-January.

The number of Texans fully vaccinated stands at 13.293 million, according to DSHS, which is 45.7 percent of the state’s population.
