Called to be Kings and Priests

II Corinthians 4:18 tells us “We do not look at the things that are seen, but at the things that are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Thus, this truth speaks of how we interpret scripture.

Il Corinthians 3:6 tells us “We are ministers of the new covenant not of the letter (seen) but of the Spirit (unseen).”

Hebrews chapter 11 tells us of the faith of saints in Old Testament times. Verses 13-16 tells us these saints viewed the promises of God from afar off (unseen) and embraced them. They were seeking a homeland, called a city in verse 16, and calling that city heavenly (unseen).

As called to be Kings (leaders), we are looking for our city in which God has called us to be one of the rulers. The Greek meaning of “city” is “a place guarded by a watch.” God is guarding your city with a watch waiting for you to assume your leadership position. He is also leading you to be trained for reigning.

Now put together Psalm 115:16 “The highest heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth He has given to man.”

In other words, God has given man dominion over the earth, and we are responsible to exercise godliness as God’s agents to impact the earth.

You may recall Revelation 5:10 in an earlier article: “Jesus has made us kings and priests, and we shall reign on earth.”

As God’s workmanship (Ephesians 2:10) we are in training for reigning.

While in training, God will probably lead you to work in duties far removed from the duties of the city of your search. Recall In an earlier article I told of Moses working as a shepherd for 40 years before God called him to lead Israel out of bondage in Egypt.

I worked as a janitor supervisor in a hospital for four years while going to a Bible college. I mopped floors, cleaned offices, cleaned bathrooms and other janitorial duties.

I laugh now about all the painful experiences God has put me through over the years. There is not anything that is below me and my pride. But God is watching you and me to see how we handle the duties he gives us.

Whatever your experience may be, don’t lose sight of your calling to be ruler in your unseen city. God is getting you prepared.
