No matter if you are a stay-at-home parent or the weekends and evenings are family time, it is inevitable. Sometimes, you will look at your kids and wonder “what on earth are we doing today?” Bring them to the library! We have all kinds of programming and resources for them in addition to the many books, audiobooks, and graphic novels they can check out.

Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. we have Story Time for pre-schoolers. Join us for singing, read aloud time, arts and crafts and a small snack. For girls aged 6 and up, we have our Girls Who Code club that meets Tuesdays in the Teen Center from 4 to 5 p.m. Girls Who Code is a national organization dedicated to encouraging girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

For pre-teens and tweens, we have our weekly meet up of the library’s Official Pokemon League. The group meets on Mondays at 4:30 p.m. in the Downstairs Meeting room to place Pokemon the Card Game. Come summertime, the library will have our annual Summer Reading Program on Tuesdays starting June 7th until July 12th at 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. This year’s theme is “An Ocean of Possibilities”. Each week the kids will learn about and read stories about the ocean. Stay tuned for more information on how to register your child or grandkids in the coming weeks.

While at the library for some of these kids’ programs, be sure to check out one of the STEMpacks available for 2-week checkouts. Each backpack is a science theme like weather, agriculture, math, money and more. The STEMpack comes loaded with games, books, DVDs, and other learning materials for each theme. We also have four children’s early literacy stations from AWE. Each computer has interactive, educational and safe learning materials to encourage little ones to develop their literacy skills. All of these programs and resources are free to the public. All you need a library card to check out items.

The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Masks are recommended while in the library building. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
