The New Year is upon us and now is a great time to get acquainted with all the library’s offerings.

There are programs for all age groups and interests. Pokemon League, Dungeons and Dragons, Monthly Book Club, watercolor classes, computer coding for kids, knitting group, storytime for children, and more.

If there is something you would like to have contact to library. In addition to these programs, the library is always looking for more volunteers. It is a great way to give back to your community.

Today at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. is our monthly class on Medicare. Learn about what Medicare does and does not cover and how to maximize your benefits. Space is limited so be sure to register.

Tomorrow, January 6, at 10 a.m. the Monthly Book Club is meeting in the genealogy room. The group will be discussing “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr. The books tells a parallel story set in occupied France during World War II.

Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History where her father works. As the Nazis enter Paris, Marie and her father escape to Saint-Malo to live with her reclusive uncle. The pair have smuggled the museum’s most valuable jewel to hide it from the Nazis.

In what feels like the other side of the world, a young boy named Werner is growing up in mining town in Germany. He and his younger sister, both orphaned at a young age, have found a radio that plays news and stories from places beyond their wildest imagination. Places they never knew existed.

Werner develops a knack for building and repairing these radios and he is soon conscripted to use his talents to root out the resistance. The two seemingly disparate lives are intertwined and demonstrate the ways people try to be good to one another.

Saturday, January 8, is the return of Dungeons and Dragons. After a brief hiatus for the holidays, the group will be meeting again in the Downstairs Meeting Room from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All ages and experience levels are welcome.

Saturday is also the Monthly Book Fair hosted by the Friends of the Library. Stop by between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to check out the great selection of new and gently used books. Everything is available by donation and all the proceeds go to support the library.

The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Masks are recommended while in the library building. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.

Happy tales, y’all.

Mauri Guillen Fagan is the Director of the Bandera Public Library.
