Bandera Library Happenings

Have you heard the news? The library has recently become a Fine Free Library.

This means no more fees for turning books in late. Now the Bandera Library has joined the other thousands of libraries around the world who have eliminated late fees.

The change was made to make the library more accessible to every member of our community. Based on data from the last twenty years, late fees are not very effective at getting people to return their books on time. Late fees are, however, very good at keeping people from low-income backgrounds and children from using their public library.

All fines are being forgiven as long as you turn in your book.

If you lose it, or if Rover took a big chomp out it, we will still charge you to replace it. We will also provide a place if you need to clear your con science with a donation in lieu of paying a late fee.

Our first ever Pumpkin Decorating Contest starts next week.

Kids and teens can come by starting Wednesday, September 15, to pick up a small pumpkin at the library and decorate it like a character in a book. Decorated pumpkins are due October 15.

We will have voting in person and online. The winner will be announced on October 29 and will receive a gift card to Snowflake Donuts.

If you want to enter your own pumpkin into the contest just submit a picture of the child with their pumpkin to banderalibrarycirculation@gmail. com.

Iris Johansen has a new novel out this week called “High Stakes.”

Logan Tanner is a professional gambler making his fortune in glamorous casinos all over the world. But under the sparkling lights and expensive wardrobe, Tanner is hiding a dark and violent past with his first career as an extractor. It was his most sincere wish that the past could remained buried. Then beautiful Lara Balkon enters his life and sends him right back into the thick of it.

Logan is dragged into a conflict between two rival Russian mafia bosses. The price to free Lara is worth more to Logan than any amount of money: information he desperately needs.

Johansen is one of the library’s most popular authors. Call the library to reserve this title today!

The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services.

Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Masks are recommended while in the library building.

Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.

Happy tales, y’all.

Mauri Guillen Fagan is the Director of the Bandera Public Library.
