Area man completes USAF basic training

U.S. Air Force Airman First Class Cyril W. Barnes, the son of Michael Barnes, USAF retired and Darlyn Barnes, recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio Lackland AFB, officials have reported.

The younger Barnes is a 2012 graduate of Medina High School.

Cyril Barnes completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate degree in an applied science through the Community College of the Air Force.

Airman Barnes will now attend the tactical aircraft m aintenance technical training course at Sheppard AFB. Upon graduation, officials said he will fill a crew chief position for the F-15 Strike Eagle Fighter Jet.
