The Medina Quilters hosted their annual show at the Medina Public Library from October 16 - 23. Ninety-six pieces of fabric art were displayed at the Medina Community Library in the Rodney Camp Pavilion. The quilts ranged from new to antique and were displayed by members of the group.

The oldest quilt displayed at the show was over 190 years old. The blue and white “Tree of Life” quilt was made by an ancestor of Martha Boyer Rollins. Mrs. Rollins’ great great great grandmother Anna Roy Wightman made the quilt at the time of her marriage in 1825. Even though nearly two centuries old, the warmth and sturdy resilience of a handmade piece of fabric art like this quilt was amazing. For the first time this year, the Quilters included a design wall for attendees to be able to create their own quilts using 16 blocks sewn in the Log Cabin pattern, a form popular during the Civil War. The 16 Log Cabin pattern blocks were placed on a large piece of flannel and attendees could move them around to create their own quilt design. The Medina Quilters Annual Show awarded Silver Scissors Awards to quilts that were deemed “favorites” as voted on by show attendees. The quilts ranged from wall display pieces to standard bed size quilts used by families. Quilt design ranged from nature-based patterns, holiday themes and geometric shapes. Each quilt had a different and unique pattern, many of which followed traditional designs.

Quilt group leader Dinah Keeley remarked “we have so much fun planning designs for quilts and showing each other new techniques at our meetings.” Keeley invites anyone with an interest in quilting to attend their regular monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of the month from 2 PM until 4 PM at the Medina Community Library. The group also meets for a Casual Coffee Friday each week at 9 AM at The Core Coffee House.
