Editor’s Note: The following is an election announcement from a local candidate. The Bulletin allows local candidates one free announcement free of charge with all following materials charged an ad fee.

Hello, I am Greg Grothues and am asking for your vote for Bandera County Commissioner, Precinct 2.

Lakehills and Precinct 2 face unique challenges with San Antonio encroaching and our physical distance from the county seat of Bandera. Our area has a population density and tax base that is not present in other Bandera precincts. Accessible county services available and represented here in Precinct 2 should be a priority for all of us.

If elected as your Commissioner, I would like to see more transparency in our County government. I strongly believe that with our tax base and population, all services, EMS, Tax, Justice of the Peace, Constable and Sherriff’s Office should have offices remain at the Lakehills Annex to best serve our community.

The County Park needs physical upgrades and an increased security presence. Our entire county would benefit from increased law enforcement presence.

The county garbage dump should be a consistent experience for all. It can and should be upgraded. Recycling is a concern for many and I will explore ways to find a cost-effective solution while not creating a tax burden.

I am a 5th generation, 30-year resident of Bandera County and a local business owner of Lake Medina RV Resort. I live and ranch on the historic Leibold-Grothues Ranch which has been in continuous agricultural production by a family member since 1882.

As a Lifetime Member of Medina Lake Volunteer Fire Department, I have served as Assistant Chief and two years as Chief of MLVFD, while our current chief was unavailable. I am also an EMT and a Medical First Responder. I have served on the Bandera Convention and Visitor Board.

I have traveled the roads of Pct. 2 on the way to countless emergencies. I have seen catastrophic flooding and extended droughts. I have left my family and business to protect our community countless times all without pay because I love our area and its people.

My wife of 30 years, Gina, and I have two children, Cole, a Junior at Bandera High School, and Kristen, a 2016 graduate of BHS. Our kids are the 6th generation to live and work on our property.

I am invested in this community and I only want the best. I have worked alongside many of you and have assisted in coaching multiple youth sports. My core beliefs are based on honor and integrity, and I believe in transparency and availability from our elected officials.

I humbly ask for your support and your vote. Early voting is Feb. 14-25. March 1 is Texas Primary Election Day.

I can be contacted at lakemedinarv1@yahoo.com and also at the meet the candidate event on Feb. 6 at the Lakehills Civic Center. I look forward to continuing to serve you and our wonderful community.
