Texas businessman Don Huffines pitched himself at a meet and greet event on December 16 at Mansfield Park, where he laid out his goals for Texas spurring from his run for Governor. He is on the ballot in the Republican primary on March 1, 2022.

Huffines held a Texas State Senate seat, representing Dallas County District 16 from 2015-2018, when he lost to the sweeping blue wave election of 2018 that ended in Democrats taking nearly all of Dallas County.

Huffines says he did not take government money while serving in the Texas legislature, where he authored legislation supporting term limits, school choice, constitutional carry and pro-life measures.

Huffines expressed opposition and frustration to the Republican legislatures in Austin; that they want to be accountable to Democrats and the media to save face, but they do not care to be accountable to the people of Texas.

“We are all tired. We’re angry and we’re frustrated, and we should be. I see things differently. I’m the only candidate that’s running for Governor that’s actually been in the legislature. I got a PhD in that swamp. I know what they want, I know how they respond. I’m a businessman. I’m not looking for a new career. I’m not looking for a new job. I’m going to do this because the job’s not getting done. I’m just like you though. I’m scared and frustrated. I’m tired of the lies,” said Huffines.

Huffines asked the crowd, “Is the border secure? Are your property taxes going away? Do you have confidence that your votes aren’t being stolen?”

The resounding answer for each question was “no.”

Huffines explained his number one priority is to secure the border of Texas.

“Border patrol is telling us that 1.5-2 million illegals are going to flood into Texas in a 12-month period. Well, anyway you define that, that’s an invasion. All of them smuggled in by the most dangerous criminal organization in the world: the Mexican cartels,” he said.

“In one court case in Dallas, an informant for the Zetas testified that they had murdered over 300 people and quit counting. These are the biggest mass murderers in history. All of that is on our border. All the fentanyl and sex trafficking is coming across. Border patrol also said it’s caught illegals from 147 different countries in the last 11 months. This is obviously a security issue.” continued Huffines.

Huffines said the first thing he is going to do is finish President Trump’s wall.

“We’re going to build hundreds of miles of the wall. We’re going to find the money to get it done,” he said.

“The most important part of this plan though: I’m never asking permission from the federal government to secure the Texas borders. We don’t need to because Article 1, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution clearly states the states’ authority to repel an invasion if the federal government isn’t coming to their aid,” Huffines said. “We can charge a tax, we can illicit support from other states, we can do what we need to do to repel an invasion. I’m going to use all the Texas military, all 20,000 plus of them in our Air Guard. I’ll be soliciting support from other states and their military.”

Huffines said he is going to shut down all inbound commercial from Mexico.

“This is strategic. We will make sure that Mexico feels the economic pain until they take back their side of the river and their cartels. The only way we have of securing that border is from a courageous Governor of Texas,” he said.

Huffines said property taxes are a bad way to fund government, then moved on to his eight-year plan to eliminate property taxes by capping spending and using the surplus to phase them down to zero.

“This plan will keep governments fully functional that are dependent on it. It’s a very doable math problem. This is not rhetoric. You’re going to actually get to own your own home, your own land, your business.” said Huffines.

Huffines expounded on election laws having to be enforced.

“I’m going to ensure only paper ballots, no electronic ballots. You’re never going to convict a Democratic for cheating a Republican in the major metropolitan areas. The DAs are Democrat, the judges are Democrat, the juries are Democrat. They’d lose their primary if they brought up charges against a Democrat. So I’m going to create a new court system. I’m going to move venue out of all these major counties and we’re going to have a new prosecution system. And these law enforcement officers, that’s all they’re going to work on: voter corruption and integrity, to follow the ballots wherever they go,” he said.

“If you get one thing out of this visit tonight, besides, vote for me, I want you to remember this take-away, the Governor is the most powerful man, unquestionably, in Texas. The Governor can get any bill done, anytime he wants. Legislation that does not get approved is because he doesn’t want it approved.” said Huffines. “We’ve lost more liberty in the last 20 months than I thought we would ever lose in several lifetimes. This is a clear case of good vs evil. Evil is on the move. And unfortunately, this was done to us by a Republican Governor of Texas.

Huffines wrapped up the evening with a question-and-answer session with the audience.

“How are you going to win?” asked one man.

“I’m not running to make a political statement. I’m here to win,” Huffines responded. There’s a path to victory, and we’re on it. We’ve raised up to 11 million dollars so far in this campaign. I’m opening field offices across the state. We have one now in San Antonio at Redland Rd. and 281, where you can pick up your swag and your yard signs. We have great endorsements: Senator Rand Paul, his father, Ron Paul, Republican Party Chairman Matt Rinaldi, and some of the Trumps. Abbot has never had another main primary Republican opponent in over 30 years of being in elected office. He’s never really been accountable to the Republican party of Texas. Now he is. He’s just a political windsock blowing in the wind. I think you guys are smart. You understand that this is a failed administration that we are fighting against. We’re going to win because we have the people with us, and we have the resources.”

Huffines full agenda: Border security, eliminate property taxes, the power grid, election integrity, CRT, term limits, transportation, health freedom, ending abortion, ending vehicle inspections, opposing high speed rail, social media censorship, and Texas values.
