“Political and Racial Polarization in Texas” is the topic of discussion at the monthly meeting of the Bandera Democratic Club this Saturday, November 13.

Guest speaker is Robert Brischetto, editor of “Mexican American Civil Rights in Texas,” recently published by Michigan State University Press. The book explores Latino civil rights progress and challenges over the past half century.

Brischetto is a former sociology professor at several Texas universities and founder of the Southwest Voter Research Institute (now the William C. Velasquez Institute) in San Antonio.

Among the topics he will explore are racial voting patterns, Texas redistricting and the Voting Rights Act and the conflict over critical race theory.

Copies of his book will be available at a discount at the meeting or obtained at MexAmTX.org.

The meeting will be held at the Bandera Electric Co-op Community Room (3172 TX Hwy 16). The doors open at 11am for a potluck meet and greet. The presentation and discussion begin at noon, followed by the club’s business meeting. The public is invited.
