Twenty-seven cowgirl’s braved cold, wet weather to take part in the 21st annual Cowgirl Round-Up held at the Mansfield Park Rodeo Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 1.
Twenty of them brought their horses with them to the event that has been held to celebrate the influence of cowgirls in a county know as the Cowboy Capital of the World.
Despite the bad weather, they spent time catching up with each other and outlining the accomplishments of their horses or the meaningful contributions the animals had made to their lives.
The ceremony drew cowgirls as young as 3 to demonstrate how committed they are to the cowgirl’s way of life.
Participants with their horses were Shelley Millay and Geronimo, Sandra Cantrell and Sweet Pea, Lyra Cantrell and Enchanted Melody, Kris Dawson and Hondo, Cassie Ballow and Ellie, Jeanne Beauxbeannes and Charlie, Carla Brady and Wild Conversion, Marti Spears and Venus, Carey Reed and two unnamed horses, Jessie Sorenson and Up Dry Doc King, Grace Kelley and Dallas, Gloria Douglass and Doc, Betty Goll and Puddin, Shelby Wells and Doc, Robin Wells and Coke, Tommi Brown and Casper, Karen Brown and Pete, Cindy Haag and Clyde, Christine Millar and Boomer, Jody Campbell and Jackson and Debra Slate and Buddy.
Cowgirls taking part without horses were Leanne Beauxbeannes, Ashlynn Hatcher, Ashley Short, Emily Short, Kristen Hatcher and Serenity Hatcher.
