The Bandera Independent School District community has set up a unique way to recognize the seniors who competed in spring sports this season, which was almost completely lost with the closing of school due to the coronavirus.
BISD Athletic Director Joel Fontenot-Amedee explains how.
“On Thursday, May 7, beginning at 7:50 p.m., we will celebrate each spring sport that either did not get to finish its season or did not get to have a Senior Night by turning on the lights in each one of our BHS stadiums.
“Each sport will be celebrated in ten-minute intervals, which will coincide with a video tribute release on our YouTube channel celebrating each group of seniors.”
Amedee said, “We encourage you to celebrate your seniors at the times listed below by driving through the stadiums’ parking lots and honking your horns and watching the video releases.
“Please follow all social distancing guidelines by staying in your car, and once the celebration is over, all cars must leave school grounds and head home when the lights go out.”
The times each sport will be recognized Thursday are:
• Softball - 7:50-8 p.m.
• Baseball - 8-8:10 p.m.
• Girls Soccer - 8:10-8:20 p.m.
• Boys Soccer - 8:20-8:30 p.m.
• Girls Track - 8:30-8:40 p.m.
• Boys Track - 8:40-8:50 p.m.
• Boys and Girls Tennis - 8:50-9 p.m.
• Boys and Girls Golf - 9-9:10 p.m.
• Boys and Girls Powerlifting - 9:10-9:20 p.m.
The videos will be available on all Bandera High School athletics social media platforms, including its website, its Facebook page, via Twitter through @BHS_ DogSports and through a new, Bulldog Athletics YouTube account, officials said.
