A San Antonio firefighter was killed in a car crash last week after he lost control of his vehicle. Richard Bart Olmo, 44, was traveling three miles north of Pipe Creek on Hwy. 16 when his vehicle overturned.
According to reports, Olmo failed to negotiate a curve and overcorrected. He was ejected from the vehicle. Reports indicate Olmo was not wearing a seatbelt. He was transported to Boerne Methodist Hospital, and pronounced dead at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3. Trooper K.E. Morgan investigated.
Three days later, another fatality occurred on Hwy. 16 near Krause Road in Pipe Creek. Travis Newton Wiggins, 84, was pronounced dead at 9:32 a.m. on Friday, July 6, after a two-car collision.
According to reports, Wiggins was heading north on Hwy. 16 when he was hit head-on by a vehicle driven by Nicky Joseph Fernandez, 31, of Bandera. Fernandez reportedly told investigators he swerved to avoid striking another vehicle that had pulled out in front of him when he crossed the center stripe entering Wiggins’ lane.
Morgan said Fernandez is not charged with any offenses at this point, and the case is still under investigation.
